Getting Married at Lakeside Hotel
The Lakeside Hotel, Newby Bridge sits quietly at the southern tip of Windermere, and if you’re planning your wedding here you’ve chosen one of the most naturally beautiful venues in the Lake District. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing weddings at Lakeside across all seasons, and honestly it’s one of those venues that gives you something genuinely special whatever the time of year.
From the moment guests arrive, Lakeside does the work for you. The front entrance is one of my favourite spots in the Lake District for confetti — the framing is natural, the light falls beautifully, and the backdrop needs nothing added to it. It’s the kind of shot that looks effortless because the venue makes it so.
Step outside and you’re at the lakeshore in seconds. The jetties at Lakeside are genuinely stunning for couple portraits — water on both sides, open sky, the fells in the distance. I’ve photographed couples here in bright summer sunshine, in soft autumn mist, and in crisp winter light and every season brings something different and equally beautiful.
Whether you’re planning a small, heartfelt ceremony or a relaxed celebration with friends and family, Lakeside Hotel offers a beautiful Lakeland setting that adapts easily to you.
My photography coverage for weddings and couple portraits around Lakeside Hotel starts from £480.
Why autumn and winter weddings at Lakeside are special
Most couples worry about weather when they choose a winter wedding date. At Lakeside I’d gently push back on that concern. The venue’s position right on the water means the light in autumn and winter has a quality you simply don’t get in summer — lower, warmer, more dramatic. The fells reflect in the lake differently. The mist rolls in across the water in a way that makes photographs look almost painterly.
Getting outside takes seconds: there’s no long walk across exposed grounds, you step out and you’re immediately in one of the most photographed landscapes in England. For winter couples this matters enormously.

The jetties are the obvious choice and rightly so — but there’s more to explore. The lakeshore offers different perspectives depending on the light and season. The hotel gardens frame beautifully in summer. In autumn the colours along the water’s edge are extraordinary. In winter a misty morning on the jetty with just the two of you is one of those photographs you’ll look at for the rest of your lives.
I like to use the space creatively — sometimes close to the water, sometimes pulling back to show the full scale of the landscape around you. The Lake District has a way of making people feel small in the most beautiful sense.
What a Wedding Day at Lakeside Feels Like
One of the things couples love most about Lakeside is how easy the day feels.
There’s no need to rush between locations, and no sense of being on display. Everything is close by:
getting ready choose between the classic hotel rooms or luxury lakeside suites
a clever ceremony space intimately enclosed within the bright conservatory
various lounges and rooms for guests to relax and socialise
gardens and lakeshore access
onsite spa for post wedding relaxing
That means more time spent actually being together — talking, laughing, and enjoying the people you’ve chosen to share the day with.
It’s particularly well suited to intimate weddings, where connection matters more than spectacle, but there’s also enough room for larger gatherings to feel comfortable rather than cramped.
Working at Lakeside Hotel
Having photographed multiple weddings at Lakeside Hotel I know the venue well — where the light falls at different times of day, which spots work in rain, where to find a quiet moment away from guests, how the day tends to flow. That familiarity means I’m never working things out on the day, I’m just focused entirely on you.
The spa facilities mean bridal preparation at Lakeside is genuinely relaxed — couples arrive on the morning of their wedding already calm, and that shows in the photographs.
Best Wedding Photography Locations Around Lakeside Hotel
Lakeside Hotel offers a lovely variety of settings on site.
Some of my favourite areas for photographs include:
the gardens which are mature and vibrant
the lakeside beach and numerous jetties
the conservatory which is light and bright
Because everything is close together, portraits can happen naturally, without pulling you away from your guests for long periods of time.
For couples who’d like something a little different, it’s also easy to plan additional photography in more epic scenery with Gummers Howe a short drive and hike away.
Why Work With Me
I’m based in Windermere and photograph weddings across the Lake District with a calm, natural approach.
Many of the couples I work with:
value atmosphere over formality
want their wedding to feel unforced
don’t want to spend the day posing or being directed
