Your registry office wedding doesn’t have to feel “Simple.” It can be stylish, joyful, meaningful and beautifully you!

Whether you’re planning an intimate celebration or you’re bringing the whole gang, Kendal Registry Office (inside Kendal Town Hall) offers a charming and elegant setting in the heart of the Lake District. And the best part? The surrounding landscapes and hidden corners make for truly incredible wedding photos. My photography prices for Kendal Registry Office Weddings and couple portraits in the landscape start at just £580.

Your ceremony here is just the beginning, not the limit. I’m here to show you how to make it unforgettable.

Why Choose Kendal Registry Office For Your Wedding?

Kendal Registry Office, located inside the historic Kendal Town Hall, is a brilliant option if you’re dreaming of a Lake District wedding without the full country-house price tag.

With its gorgeous architecture, central location, and close proximity to some of the Lake District’s most scenic viewpoints, it’s perfect for relaxed, stylish couples who want a laid-back wedding day surrounded by beauty.

Whether you’re keeping things tiny or planning a slightly bigger crowd, it offers a lovely space to say your vows — and puts you right on the doorstep for iconic Lake District photographs afterwards.

Contact the Westmorland and Furness Council’s registration service to check for available dates. Try to book in advance at popular times of year.

Once you’ve booked your ceremony, give notice of your intent to marry no less than 28 days before the ceremony. This should be done at the registry office in the district in which you live.

Kendal Registry Office weddings are friendly, relaxed and typically around 20 minutes long.

A rough timeline:
• Arrive 10–15 minutes before your ceremony
• Quick chat with the registrars
• Exchange vows
• Sign the register
• Celebratory exit

Then the fun begins! This is where we explore, celebrate and make the day feel like yours.

Want to grab a drink at a cosy pub with your people? Head to Lake Windermere, Ambleside or Grasmere for portraits? Hike up to Kendal Castle or a Lake District viewpoint in your wedding gear? Go wild swimming? Picnic by a lake? Yes. Yes. Yes.
This is your wedding day — you get to write the rules.

One of my favourite things about Kendal is that you’re right on the edge of the Lake District. Within minutes, you can be surrounded by fells, water and big skies.

A few of my favourite photography locations:

RIGHT IN KENDAL

• Kendal Town Hall exterior – that architecture!
• Kendal streets + hidden alleys – characterful backdrops
• River Kent + bridges – soft, romantic scenes
• Abbot Hall + gardens – elegant, quiet and refined

A SHORT DRIVE AWAY

• Scout Scar – dramatic views with easy access
• Kendal Castle – atmospheric ruins + wide landscapes
• Windermere + Bowness – lakeside romance
• Rydal + Grasmere – woodland, water + mountains
• Loughrigg & surrounding viewpoints – unbeatable views

We can wander together, explore somewhere meaningful to you, or plan a route with a mix of scenery. Town, lakeside, mountains, to make the most of your surroundings.

• Don’t skip the outfits, a registery office still allows you to dress up in whatever makes you feel amazing.
• Bring a simple bouquet
• Consider a weekday wedding: quieter + more flexible
• Book a photographer even for a short time, these moments deserve to be remembered

(Side note: I offer short coverage options for Kendal Registry weddings — perfect if you want photos from your ceremony and a relaxed portrait session afterwards.)

That’s the beauty of getting married here — you’re in one of the most stunning places in the UK.

After the ceremony, you could:

  • Enjoy dinner in town with your friends and family (there are some awesome independent eateries)
  • Head to Loughrigg at golden hour or the next morning for portraits
  • Picnic by Lake Windermere or Rydal Water
  • Book a private chef and have a feast at your airbnb
  • Rent a boat
Visit a microbrewery or cosy pub

Your wedding doesn’t need to follow a traditional timeline.
Whether you’re eloping or celebrating all day, it’s your story — your way.

Your Kendal Registry Office wedding can be:
• Two hours with your favourite human
• A whole day with everyone you love
• A wild adventure, a quiet moment, or anything in between

I’d love to hear your plans and help you bring them to life.

I’ve photographed weddings all over the Lakes, so I know how to find the best light, views and hidden spots — even when the weather has Opinions (it’s the Lakes, after all).

Whether you want:
• A little guidance
• A lot of adventure
• Minimal posing
• Documentary moments

…I’ll be there to hype you up, keep things relaxed, and capture it all with heart.

Take a look at the Georgian Ceremony Room At Kendal Town Hall

Here’s a handy view of the wedding ceremony space at Kendal Registry Office. The building is located in the centre of Kendal. There isn’t onsite parking but I can suggest several car parks nearby. The ceremony room is located on the first floor with access via stairs or a lift. The building is open to the public with some tourists and locals using the information hub at the front of the building. The first floor tends to be quiet and I’ve always found it a calm and welcoming space for weddings.

There are large toilets available should you or members of your family wish to change onsite before your ceremony. I find most of my couples enjoy walking through Kendal’s historic streets in their wedding outfits and this can make a fabulous photograph or two, just ask if this is of interest! (Kendal Castle anyone?)

Say hello. Let's work together
