Getting Married at Holesfoot
Tucked away in the northern Lake District, Holesfoot is the kind of place that feels like a secret! A privately-owned estate where you and your favourite people can arrive on a Friday, take over completely, and not leave until Sunday with memories that last a lifetime.
Outdoor Ceremonies at Holesfoot
The Italian gardens at Holesfoot are genuinely unlike anywhere else in Cumbria. Formally laid out but completely unhurried in atmosphere, they provide a natural backdrop that does most of the work for you, the kind of setting where you don’t need much floristry or dressing because the surroundings speak for themselves. Say your vows here with the hedgerows and blooms around you, and the photographs will look like something from a travel editorial rather than a wedding catalogue.
For something a little more unexpected, the jetty by the pond is quietly magical. Surrounded by still water and the sounds of the estate, it has an intimacy that larger venues simply can’t replicate. It’s perfect if you want your ceremony to feel personal, private, and genuinely unforgettable. On the photograph above you see it beautifully dressed with a floral arch from Mr Flowers.
A Venue You Have All to Yourselves
One of the things that sets Holesfoot apart is the on-site accommodation. Rather than sending your guests off to different hotels at the end of the night, everyone stays put, waking up together the next morning, still in the magic of it. The estate sleeps a generous number of guests across its beautiful rooms and cottages, making it ideal for the kind of wedding where you want to truly make a weekend of it.
What a Wedding Day at Holesfoot Feels Like
One of the things couples love most about Holesfoot is the team. With Live in charge you feel looked after from the moment you enquire.
Couple’s also love that they optimise their time on the day with no need to rush between locations. Everything is close by:
beautiful bridal room for morning prep
ceremony spaces
reception rooms
gardens (perfect for a picnic like these photographs with flowers by English Flowers by Heather)
- evening barn
- onsite accommodation
It’s particularly well suited to larger weddings with ample space for everyone.
Best Wedding Photography Locations Around Holesfoot
Holesfoot offers a lovely variety of settings without needing to travel far.
Some of my favourite areas for photographs include:
the lawn in front of the main house
the insane flowers around the house and grounds
the rowing boat in the pond
the beautiful windows and pillars inside the main house.
Because everything is close together, portraits can happen naturally, without pulling you away from your guests for long periods of time.
Making It Your Own
Holesfoot works beautifully for couples who want their wedding to feel like a large vibrant extended celebration with family and friends. But they also offer smaller Autumn and Winter wedding celebrations. The light at this time of year is extraordinary, the grounds feel like they belong to you alone, and there’s something about getting married midweek in a place this beautiful that feels wonderfully, deliberately chosen.
Why Work With Me
I’m based in Windermere and photograph weddings across the Lake District with a calm, natural approach.
Many of the couples I work with:
value atmosphere over formality
want their wedding to feel unforced
don’t want to spend the day posing or being directed
If you’re planning a wedding at Holesfoot and would like to talk through Lake District Wedding photography ideas, timelines, or coverage options, I’d love to hear from you.
