Getting Married at Lodore Falls
Lodore Falls Hotel sits at the southern tip of Derwentwater, where the fells drop steeply into the lake and the waterfall cascades through the woodland behind. It’s one of those venues that does most of the work for you — dramatic, romantic and completely Lakeland in every direction you look.
I’m Anna, a Lake District wedding photographer specialising in natural, documentary photography. I’ve photographed weddings across Cumbria and Lodore Falls is one of those venues that takes your breath away, both as a guest and as a photographer.
Why Lodore Falls is one of the Lake District's most magical wedding venues:
Tucked between the fells and the shore of Derwentwater, Lodore Falls Hotel offers something rare — grandeur without stuffiness. The lake is right there. The waterfall is steps away. Catbells rises across the water and on a clear day the reflections are extraordinary.
For couples who want their wedding to feel rooted in the landscape who chose the Lakes for a reason — Lodore delivers it all in one place.
Photography at Lodore Falls — what to expect:
The light at Lodore changes constantly. Morning mist sits on the water. Afternoon sun catches the fells above Borrowdale. Evening turns the lake gold. Whatever time of year you marry there, the landscape gives us something extraordinary to work with.
Some of my favourite moments to photograph at Lodore:
- Couple portraits on the lakeshore with Catbells reflected in the water behind you
- The woodland walk to the falls — dappled light, mossy rocks, the sound of water
- Ceremony details in those beautiful interiors — warm, rich, genuinely elegant
- The jetty surrounded by long golden grass
- Guests spilling out onto the terrace with the lake as a backdrop
- Surprise View (just ask!)
I work quietly and unobtrusively, you won’t feel directed or posed. I’m there to watch, to notice, to be in the right place at the right moment. The result is images that feel like your day actually felt, not a performance of it.
