Letitia and Luke: Holesfoot Jetty Wedding

Jetty Wedding Holesfoot

Letitia and Luke got married on the jetty at Holesfoot. They’re only the third couple ever to do it.

Holesfoot is a Grade II listed country house in the Eden Valley, tucked between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. It has 20 acres of gardens, woodland and meadow, and a lake with a wooden jetty running out over the water. Most couples marry up at the house. Letitia and Luke wanted to be out on the water, and I’m so glad they did.

It was autumn, the trees around the lake had turned, and the flowers were pink. That’s really all you need to know about how pretty this one was.

The ceremony on the jetty

A jetty ceremony is small by nature. There’s room for the two of you, your celebrant and not much else, with your guests gathered at the water’s edge. That’s what makes it work. Everyone is close, and the lake does the rest.

From a photography point of view, the jetty is a gift. You get the beautiful Holesfoot House in the background, the couple framed against open water, reflections when it’s still, and the trees on the far bank doing all the colour work in October.

Letitia walked down the aisle with her mum, there were plenty of happy tears in the audience. The vows were simple and meaningful against the crisp autumn air.

Autumn colour and pink flowers

Pink isn’t the obvious choice for an autumn wedding. Most people go rust and burnt orange. Letitia and Luke went pink, and against the copper and gold of the Eden Valley in October it looked brilliant. Soft and warm instead of seasonal-by-numbers.

The flowers were by Seed & Wild, and they were gorgeous! Every detail had been considered and it really was a joy to photograph.

If you’re planning an autumn wedding and wondering whether your colours will “work” with the season: they will. The landscape is a backdrop, not a rule.

The rest of the day

After the ceremony we headed into the grounds for portraits. With 20 acres of woodland, gardens and meadow, there’s no shortage of places to go, and in autumn light the whole estate glows. The swing is always a favourite spot of mine, allowing the couple a few moments of fun together before partying with their friends and family. The Holesfoot staircase is also a great spot for couple portraits.

Hair was by Lucie Kelly and make-up by Megan Hartley. Food was by Karen Rhodes Weddings & Events, and the cake was by Where the Ribbon Ends.

Clare Olivia Films captured the day on video, and Blush & Bride Content were there for the behind-the-scenes content. It was a great team to work alongside.

Thank you, Letitia and Luke, for letting me be part of something only two other couples have ever done.
