Abbie and Aaron’s Summer Town Head Estate Wedding
Some weddings have a vibe from the minute you walk in. Abbie and Aaron’s had several, and nearly all of them involved music.
The details
Abbie’s bridal details were stunning. The jewellery vintage opal pieces with family heritage, and she’d clearly thought about every detail. Shoe’s, flowers, an exquisite dress. I always make time for the details early in the day, before things get busy, and hers were a joy to photograph.
Autumnal bridesmaids
The bridesmaids wore orange. Not peach or apricot, but proper, confident orange. Against the greens of Town Head Estate it looked brilliant, and it gave every group photo a real lift. More couples should be brave with colour. It always pays off in the photos.
A jazz trio, a swing singer and a live painter
The music set the tone for the whole day. A jazz trio Ritz Trio played through the drinks reception, and swing singer Andrew Bourn had guests up and dancing much earlier than usual.
There was also a live painter, at work through the day, capturing the wedding as it happened. I love it when there’s another creative on the day. Photographing someone painting the same moments I’m shooting is a lovely bit of overlap, and Abbie and Aaron get a finished painting to keep alongside their photos.
The donkeys
These were important photos. Non-negotiable, in fact to celebrate a special person. Getting a donkey to cooperate is a different skill from getting a wedding party to cooperate, but we got there, and they’re some of my favourite frames of the day.
A super happy couple
What I’ll remember most is how happy Abbie and Aaron were. There was no performing for the camera. They laughed all day, and that’s exactly what I want to photograph. When a couple is that relaxed, my job is just to keep up.
