Getting Married at Town Head

With a standout position on the shores of Lake Windermere, in the Southern Lake District, Town Head Estate is the kind of place that feels like a dream! A privately-owned estate where you and your favourite people can arrive on a Friday, take over completely, and not leave until Sunday with memories that last a lifetime.

With the option to get married outdoors in the stunning walled garden or down by the lake alongside the beautiful indoor barn where Emily and Liam chose to tie the knot shown here.

Outdoor Ceremonies at Town Head

Town Head offers four distinct ceremony spaces:

Lake View Terrace & Croquet Lawn — part lawn, part stone flags, with elevated, uninterrupted views over Lake Windermere and the fells.

The Orchard — an enclosed, landscaped English garden right in front of the Wedding Barn, framed by flower borders and apple trees.

The Lake Shore & Private Shingle Beach — a lakeside setting at the water’s edge, suited to both intimate and larger ceremonies, with the lake and fells as backdrop.

The Boat House & Jetty — a licensed Victorian boathouse with its own day room and balcony, plus a shingle beach for water-side ceremonies.

Capacity varies by space: the Boat House comfortably holds 30–40 guests, while the outdoor grounds and terrace can accommodate up to 120.

Weather backup is straightforward, since the main Wedding Barn sits close to all of these spaces, making an indoor switch easy if needed.

A Venue You Have All to Yourselves

What a Wedding Day at Town Head Feels Like

One of the things couples love most about Town Head is the exclusive feel. With prime Lake Windermere shoreline, yet hidden peacefully away from the Lake District tourists, it really feels like your own private part of the Lakes. Couples also love that they optimise their time on the day with no need to rush between locations, with everything close by — a beautiful bridal room for morning prep, ceremony spaces, reception rooms, a walled garden, an evening barn, onsite accommodation, and a jetty and boat house. It’s particularly well suited to larger weddings, with ample space for everyone.

Best Wedding Photography Locations Around Town Head

own Head offers a stunning variety of settings without needing to travel far, set right on the shores of Lake Windermere.

Some of my favourite areas for photographs include:

  • the private jetty and boathouse overlooking the lake
  • the walled garden, full of texture and colour
  • the lakeside shoreline itself, with Windermere as the backdrop
  • the rustic charm of the evening barn

Because everything is close together, portraits can happen naturally, without pulling you away from your guests for long periods of time.

Making It Your Own

Town Head works beautifully for couples who want their wedding to feel like a large vibrant extended celebration with family and friends. But they also offer smaller Autumn and Winter wedding celebrations. The light at this time of year is extraordinary, the grounds feel like they belong to you alone, and there’s something about getting married midweek in a place this beautiful that feels wonderfully, deliberately chosen.

Why Work With Me

I’m based in Windermere and photograph weddings across the Lake District with a calm, natural approach.

Many of the couples I work with:

  • value atmosphere over formality

  • want their wedding to feel unforced

  • don’t want to spend the day posing or being directed

If you’re planning a wedding at Town Head and would like to talk through Lake District Wedding photography ideas, timelines, or coverage options, I’d love to hear from you.
